International Day of the Midwife: May 5, 2026
Midwives provide essential sexual, reproductive, perinatal and newborn health services to women and gender diverse people. On International Day of the Midwife, Island Health celebrates, with deep gratitude for their work, the 141 registered midwives working in our region.
Recruitment update
Island Health’s Medical Staff Recruitment team has made significant progress over the past year, increasing provider recruitment by 19% from FY25-26 compared to the previous year. Since May 2025 alone, 46 physicians and 15 nurse practitioners have been recruited from the United States, helping to strengthen care across Vancouver Island.
