Medical Leadership Strategy

The new medical leadership structure is launching in January 2026. 
 

​​The new approach to medical leadership aims to​ provide clarity, consistency and regionally integrated medical leadership across Island Health.

Internal review of medical leadership structure​, compensation, and support within Island Health was conducted in 2024-2025 fiscal year. As a result of this review, medical staff identified critical areas for improvement. Key priorities for this work include:

  • Ensure clarity in leadership roles and foster effective co-leadership
  • Strengthen governance and decision-making structures
  • Create clear, transparent processes for FTE allocation and compensation
  • Improve supports for effective onboarding and leadership development
