The new approach to medical leadership aims to provide clarity, consistency and regionally integrated medical leadership across Island Health.
Internal review of medical leadership structure, compensation, and support within Island Health was conducted in 2024-2025 fiscal year. As a result of this review, medical staff identified critical areas for improvement. Key priorities for this work include:
- Ensure clarity in leadership roles and foster effective co-leadership
- Strengthen governance and decision-making structures
- Create clear, transparent processes for FTE allocation and compensation
- Improve supports for effective onboarding and leadership development
