Dr. Tom Lloyd: Self and Relational Awareness Workshop
Island Health is excited to host Dr. Tom Lloyd for two day-long workshops open to medical staff and medical leaders. Self and relational awareness are critical skills that are often limited in the education and socialization of physicians. Current research and literature support the need to begin with our own self-awareness to better understand how our thoughts and emotions influence our behaviors towards ourselves and others.

IHealth News Brief for Medical Staff – April 25
Island Health medical staff, alongside nursing, pharmacy, and allied health, prepare for Go-Live by transitioning patient orders to electronic platforms. Cutover process begins days before Go-Live, with May 25 for Victoria General Hospital, Gorge Road Health Centre, and South Island Surgical Centre, and June 8 for Royal Jubilee Hospital.

As part of our commitment to foster a supportive environment for our workforce, Island Health is excited to share progress on our childcare projects. Recognizing the impact childcare availability has on both recruitment and retention, we are in the process of finding solutions to secure high-quality childcare spaces specifically for our staff and medical staff.

Closing the Loop on the Cerner EHR Service Interruption on March 29
Staff working on Friday, March 29, 2024 experienced a Cerner EHR service interruption during which the system slowed or froze when certain activities were performed. A Code Grey system outage was initiated for two hours, from 4:40 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. Oracle Health identified the cause of the issue and applied the correction that evening.

Last weekend, the pediatrics and pediatric surgery teams attended a retreat in Parksville to discuss patient quality improvements across the Island. The retreat was well attended and a great success.
