We hope many of you have been able get some rest and take some time to be with family, connect with friends and loved ones – virtually of course – and to decompress a little, with the weekend under way. That said, we all know the health care system doesn’t sleep, and doesn’t take weekends off, and neither does the virus we are all pulling together to respond to.

As we come closer to the end of this busy week, we want to thank you for following our daily updates. What stands out to both of us is the incredible commitment and compassion of the Island Health family to move and adapt in this new and evolving response to COVID-19. Thank you. Also, our apologies for the length of today’s memo, but there is important information we want to ensure you have today.

We want to start by acknowledging the impact each of us are feeling in the loss of normalcy in our day-to-day lives. Our world has changed in the past weeks and with each new report and update, it can feel like this will last forever. Today Isobel MacKenzie, BC Seniors Advocate, shared an important message that echoes what we often hear from Dr. Bonnie Henry. “It’s not forever, it’s for now.” This is something each of us has to hold onto as we continue to lean into this important work.
