Pride 2023: Supporting Our Community

As noted in the May 31 Pride article​, Island Health is recognizing Pride differently this year. In solidarity with Island Health Queer staff, medical staff and volunteers – as well as their patients, clients and residents – Island Health is donating the funds typically allotted to Pride parade registration to five local, community-based non-profit organizations to support them and their very important work.

Clinical Trials Improve the Safety and Effectiveness of Intensive Care for Patients

Island Health is taking part in a clinical trial to study whether a different fluid (KiteLock Sterile Locking Solution™) is safer and better at keeping central intravenous lines or central venous access devices free from blockages and infections. If study results show that KiteLock is better than saline, this research will inform practice at Island Health and across the country.

Residents of Vancouver Island living with moderate mental health and substance use challenges now have improved access to publicly-funded, community-based counselling through the addition or expansion of partnerships with 11 counselling service providers, which will collectively have capacity to meet the counselling needs of at least 1,500 clients each year.
