Urgent Shift Opportunities

Island Health and your colleagues are requesting your support with upcoming ER and Inpatient shift coverage across Vancouver Island sites.

Urgent/Critical Emergency Shifts

The following shifts, if left unfilled, will result in site closure or diversion.

Port McNeill Hospital - July 26, 28 (0900-0900)

West Coast General Hospital - Aug 7, 10, 11 (2200-0800); Aug 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (1500-2200)

  • Please be advised that the Rural Emergency Enhancement Fund (REEF) and the Medical On-Call Availability Program (MOCAP) are administered by the local physician group.

IF available, eligible travel support includes:

  • Travel time honorarium (within BC):
    • $250  - 2.5 hrs or less return trip
    • $500   -2.5 hrs up to 4 hours return trip
    • $1000 - 4 hrs to 10 hours return trip
    • $1500 - greater than 10 hours
  • Paid mileage from your location to the site at $0.70 km
  • Meal allowance (while traveling)
  • Accommodation
