Urgent Shift Opportunities

Island Health and your colleagues are requesting your support with upcoming emergency department, inpatient care, and general internal medicine shift coverage across Vancouver Island sites.

Urgent/Critical Emergency Shifts

The following shift(s), if left unfilled, will result in site closure or diversion.

West Coast General Hospital:

November 16 (0800-1500); 25 (1500-2200); 27 (2200-0800)

December 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30, 31 (1500-2200); 23, 28, 29, 31 (0800-1500); and 24, 25, 26, 27 (2200-0800)

Tofino General Hospital:

December 23, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31 (1800-0800) and 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 (0800-1800)

Lady Minto Hospital:

December 25, 26, 27 (1900-0700) and 24, 25 (0700-1900)

Please be advised that the Rural Emergency Enhancement Fund (REEF) and the Medical On-Call Availability Program (MOCAP) are administered by the local physician group.

IF available, eligible travel support includes:

  • Travel time honorarium (within BC):
    • $250  - 2.5 hrs or less return trip
    • $500   -2.5 hrs up to 4 hours return trip
    • $1000 - 4 hrs to 10 hours return trip
    • $1500 - greater than 10 hours
  • Paid mileage from your location to the site at $0.72 km
  • Meal allowance (while traveling)
  • Accommodation
