Urgent Shift Opportunities

Island Health and your colleagues are requesting your support with upcoming emergency department, inpatient care, and general internal medicine shift coverage across Vancouver Island sites.

Contact medstaffhrplanning@islandhealth.ca directly if you are able to provide coverage or for more information. In most cases, privileging can be expedited as required. 

Urgent/Critical Emergency Shifts

The following shift(s), if left unfilled, will result in site closure or diversion.

West Coast General Hospital – 18 (1500-2200); May 2 (2200-0800)

Lady Minto Hospital – April 22 (0700-1900); May 2 (1900-0700)

Port Hardy Hospital – May 1, 4 (0700-0700)

Please be advised that the Rural Emergency Enhancement Fund (REEF) and the Medical On-Call Availability Program (MOCAP) are administered by the local physician group.

IF available, eligible travel support includes:

  • Travel time honorarium (within BC):
    • $250  - 2.5 hrs or less return trip
    • $500   -2.5 hrs up to 4 hours return trip
    • $1000 - 4 hrs to 10 hours return trip
    • $1500 - greater than 10 hours
  • Paid mileage from your location to the site at $0.73 km
  • Meal allowance (while traveling)
  • Accommodation
