Through the Provider Profile tool, providers will be able to view information about their patient population, and measures related to the dimensions of quality. Comparisons will be made to the mean for their defined provider group or service.
Measures are provided as a focus for quality improvement and professional development. As such they are:
- Evidence based
- Related to dimensions of quality
- Chosen by physicians
- Relevant to clinical care
The Provider Profile measures are suitable for both individual and group level improvements. Groups may wish to identify quality improvement (QI) initiatives that multiple division/group members may participate in. Individuals may wish to set personal goals for their own individual measures using a continuous improvement cycle approach.
Both group and individual approaches meet requirements for CFPC (Mainpro+) and RCPSC (My MOC) professional development credits.

Provider Profile: Engaging in QI and/or CPD Coming soon |
Opportunities for Group Reflection
While the Provider Profile can be leveraged to promote learning at the individual level, it can also be used to support a group approach. Physicians are encouraged to use their data and connect with their peers to engage in improvement.
Examples of opportunities for group reflection may include:
- Hosting division meetings for group sharing and discussion
- Facilitating physicians pairing together with colleagues to share and reflect practice data (think-pair-share model)
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
For individual professional development, the use of an audit and feedback or continuous improvement cycle methodology will help guide you. Updates to the Provider Profile support personal evaluation of the impact of the changes you make to your practice.
CPD self-assessment is about using data to identify a gap in care (an aim), creating a plan (or change idea) and measuring for improvement. This is taking the personal approach rather than a system level.
Reporting tools are available through UBC and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) to guide your documentation for professional development credits.
Expand the headings below to learn more about how you can leverage your data from the Provider Profile to gain CPD credits through UBC.

Quality Improvement (QI)
Potential gaps in care and opportunities for improvement can be addressed at a team level using improvement science. This may be particularly relevant where a team model of patient care is predominant, attribution of patients to specific providers includes many assumptions, and where action at a group level as indicated.
