Medical Staff Engagement and Development

Island Health's Medical Staff Engagement and Development team supports CPD by

  • Coordinating and promoting Island Health rounds and other CPD events, including CPD accreditation submission*
  • Providing advice on the CPD accreditation process for Island Health events
  • Administering the Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Program funds in partnership with Finance & Practice design
  • Administering the Visiting Speaker Fund in partnership with Contract Management

*Medical staff members are responsible for documenting and logging the required number of continuing medical education credits as per the reporting cycle of their respective certifying College.
 

Visiting Speakers

Medical Staff Engagement and Development has set aside $10,000 annually within a special purpose fund to subsidize visiting speakers for continuing medical education activities organized by the Departments or Divisions of Island Health.   Visiting speakers will be subsidized up to a maximum of $2,000 per speaker to go toward honoraria and travel.  Up to five speakers per fiscal year can be subsidized.

Rural Continuing Medical Education

The Doctors of BC and BC Ministry of Health support continuing professional development for rural physicians through the Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Program

RCME is also supported by the Rural Coordination Centre of BC and Rural Physician Mentoring Program.
