The Partnerships and Programs team leads a variety of key initiatives including: the Associate Physician Program, the Extraordinary Temporary Support Program and Resident Doctor Onboarding and Support.

MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE PARTNERSHIPS AND PROGRAMS TEAM

Associate Physician Program
  • Associate Physicians are a new restricted class of physician practitioners introduced by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. The Associate Physician Program team works with the Associate Physician Advisory Committee (APAC) to guide the design and implementation of the Program across Island Health. Working under a dyad Directorship, and collaboratively with other organizational units within Island Health, the Partnerships and Programs team is tasked with overseeing the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for Associate Physicians throughout the region. Extraordinary Temporary Support Program (ETSP)
  • The Extraordinary Temporary Support Program (ETSP) is designed to enhance the organization's medical staff workforce to address immediate staffing gaps, by introducing new temporary resources. The Partnerships and Programs team reviews all applications, renewals, and approval requests, while ensuring program eligibility criteria have been met. Partnerships and Programs provides support and guidance to medical and site leaders. 
Medical Staff Health & Safety
  • The Partnerships and Programs team collaborates with Doctors of BC and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) colleagues to deliver various programs and initiatives including Violence Prevention training. All workshops, events, and training modules are aimed at enhancing medical staff Health and Safety.
Resident Doctor Onboarding & Support
  • The Partnerships and Programs team works to advocate for, engage, and support Resident Doctors within Island Health. The team participates in provincial meetings to ensure commitments under the Resident Cooperation Agreement (RCA) are met.
