In 2016, Island Health launched a new Medical Leadership Structure to ensure Medical Leaders are supported and to involve Medical Staff in decision-making. This structure has two parts; Departmental and Operational.

Island Health’s Medical Staff Engagement and Development team welcomed two new team members this month. Sara Campbell, based in Nanaimo, is the new Project Lead and Tara Martinez, based in Victoria, is the new Program Assistant.

New hospital coming to the Cowichan Valley
On Friday, June 6th, Premier John Horgan and Health Minister Adrian Dix joined staff, patients and community partners at the Cowichan District Hospital to announce it is full steam ahead on a project to replace the existing hospital.

Medical leaders from across Island Health met June 22 for an afternoon to learn more about medical staff engagement best practices and application. Island Health’s Medical Staff Engagement and Development team hosted “Engaging Medical Staff in Decision Making” workshop.

New Medical Director & Department Head for Laboratory Medicine, Pathology & Medical Genetics
Dr. Gordon Hoag’s term as Medical Director and Department Head for the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics completed at the end of June. Dr. Hoag started as Medical Director in 2000.
