Video – Island Health’s Climate Change & Planetary Health Conference
On September 26, Island Health held its first Climate Change & Planetary Health Conference at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo. More than 200 staff, medical staff and leaders from across the organization attended this special gathering—an encouraging turnout, given that taking action on climate change is one of Island Health's top priorities, and a key part of our Strategic Framework and Annual Plan.

Immunization remains the best way to prevent the transmission and spread of influenza and COVID-19. We thank those who have already made use of immunization clinics, and for those who are still interested, our clinics are open to all staff and medical staff until November 8. There is no need to declare your COVID-19 vaccination status at this time.

New Gender-Affirming Relational Practice Online Course from Trans Care BC
Trans Care BC and Prince George Division of Family Practice co-developed a new e-learning course, Gender-Affirming Relational Practice (GARP). This free, two-hour course provides an overview of how health-care providers can combine clinical practice, relational practice, and gender-affirming care principles to improve access and care for trans, Two-Spirit, and non-binary (TTNB) clients.

Cowichan Valley project uplifts mental health in patients living with terminal illness
Living with a terminal illness can deeply impact mental well-being. Approved in summer 2024, Shared Care’s Living Consciously with Terminal Illness project, led by the Cowichan Valley Primary Care Society, provides MSP-funded group visits and virtual care to support patients.

Collaborative Emergency Response Transport (CERT) Team Supporting Rural Sites
The Collaborative Emergency Response Transport (CERT) team provides inter-facility transport of any patient that requires more than a BLS BCEHS scope of practice. This allows base site RNs to stay at the bedside, and does not empty our sites of RNs for transport.
