The Island Health Medical Staff Recruitment team provides support for recruitment of Specialists and Primary Care providers.    

Specialist Recruitment

  • Guide the Program, Division, and/or Department leaders through the approval processes for Medical Staff vacancies
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for approved Island Health vacancies to promote Island Health as a preferred practice location
  • Support selection committee processes leading to hire (establishing a pipeline of candidates, pre-screening of applicants, obtaining references, supporting interviews and site visits)
  • Support shortlisted candidates with site visit arrangements and community information
  • Provide letter of offer to the successful candidate

Primary Care

  • Oversee UBC IMG and PRABC return of service programs
  • Support recruitment to PCN/UPCCs and Primary Care Strategy
  • Support community clinics with posting vacancies on Island Health careers site, Health Match BC and other sites as required
  • Work collaboratively with the Divisions of Family Practice and candidates to find the best fits for practice choice and lifestyle

Recruitment of International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

  • Oversee steps leading to College licensure
  • Supports the Provincial Nominee Program, leading to work permit
  • Provide ongoing support to IMGs and their families as they relocate to Vancouver Island
