Mental Health Act Training (1hr)
-
Protecting the rights of patients, especially those who are most at risk, is of paramount importance. As an organization, we need to do more to support enacting the Mental Health Act (MHA) requirements. Much of this relates to how we complete forms related to involuntary admissions, and ensuring that patients’ rights are upheld.
This course is required for all medical staff working in Primary Care, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, and Hospitalists who work in emergency departments or hold admitting privileges in British Columbia. The Ministry of Health requires medical staff who are regularly and actively involved in the admission and treatment of patients under the MHA to complete the education module (released April 2023) and should be familiar with the Guide to Mental Health Act.
