Family Physician (PCN) - (200-1906)

Reference Number
200-1906

Protea Medical Clinic is seeking a Family Physician to join our team in the heart of downtown Duncan. Located at the corner of Canada Avenue and 3rd Street, Protea is a warm, close-knit family practice where physicians are genuinely valued — not just for their productivity, but as essential members of a clinical family built around long-term, trusted relationships with patients.

Protea's space is modern, comfortable, and thoughtfully laid out for both efficient clinical work and genuine connection between colleagues — a clinic that feels less like a workplace and more like a second home. You'll be supported every day by a dedicated administrative and clinical support team who take care of the operational details of running a practice, so your time and energy stay focused on your patients.

Just as the Protea flower is known for thriving in demanding conditions, the physicians here bring that same resilience and adaptability to patient care — and they don't do it alone. Every physician at Protea works alongside colleagues who genuinely have each other's backs.

You won't be building a practice in isolation. Protea's physician team — Dr. Jan Malherbe, Dr. Nicholas Hargrove, and Dr. Zaan Davies — has built a culture of real collegiality: informal curbside consults, mutual coverage, shared clinical problem-solving, and the kind of day-to-day camaraderie that makes longitudinal family practice sustainable over the long run. New physicians are welcomed as full partners in that culture from day one, with experienced colleagues down the hall to lean on as you settle in.

Nestled between Victoria and Nanaimo on the east coast of Vancouver Island, the Cowichan Valley offers an exceptional quality of life that is difficult to match anywhere in Canada. Known for having Canada's warmest year-round climate, the region combines spectacular natural beauty with vibrant communities, outstanding amenities, and endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Whether your ideal weekend includes hiking through old-growth forests, golfing on championship courses, boating and kayaking along the coast, mountain biking, fishing, or simply relaxing at one of the Valley's award-winning wineries, the Cowichan lifestyle offers something for everyone. The region has become a destination for its thriving farm-to-table food culture, boutique vineyards, artisan producers, farmers' markets, and exceptional local restaurants.

The region is home to highly regarded public schools as well as several outstanding independent schools, making it an ideal place to build both a career and a family.

The Cowichan Valley is made up of a collection of unique communities, each with its own distinct character, including Duncan, Maple Bay, Cowichan Bay, Mill Bay, Shawnigan Lake, Cobble Hill, Chemainus, Ladysmith, Crofton, and Lake Cowichan.
