The Vancouver Island Health Authority is seeking a General Surgeon to join their team at the Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan on Vancouver Island, filling a position opened by a retiring surgeon and working alongside three full-time General Surgeons.

The Cowichan District Hospital, a 134-bed acute care facility, enjoys an exceptionally collegial atmosphere amongst the general and specialty medical staff.  Clinical specialist colleagues include Orthopedic Surgery, Anesthesiology, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Pathology and Radiology.  The Cowichan District Hospital, with 134 acute care beds, serves an immediate referral population of 82,000 runs three operating rooms, a six-bed ICU and has on site CT and PACS medical imaging system, and a mobile MRI unit.

The new Cowichan District Hospital is expected to be completed in 2027 and will bring added inpatient capacity in excess of 200 beds, as well as expanded OR and ICU capacity. We plan for state-of-the-art equipment and design.

The surgical group does one in four call. Competency with endoscopy and management of acute GI bleeds is mandatory.

Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 (full-time)
Relocation Costs Reimbursement: up to $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
Fee Premium: 4.20%
Annual Flat Fee: $6,508.80
CME: $3,000/annum year 3-4 and $6,000/annum after 4 years in the community.
