Practice full service family medicine on beautiful Salt Spring Island! Join our collegial group of 7 physicians at the Salt Spring Island Health Centre. We have individual practices but collaborate often in the care of our patients. Dr. Paula Ryan is retiring after 25 years of practice and is looking for a physician to take her panel of approximately 650 patients. This practice represents all age groups from infants to seniors and is an excellent model of general rural family practice.
Physicians typically work 2-3 days in clinic plus 18-24 hours of ER call coverage per week. Physicians have the option to focus their practice more towards clinic-based work or acute care/ER as needed.
Our large, bright clinic includes six exam rooms, and we are pleased to be set up to offer minor procedure services such as biopsies and excisions, IUD insertion, liquid nitrogen and IMS.
We are proud of our close partnerships with our local allied health providers including hospital staff, mental health clinicians, community paramedics, pharmacists, community care nursing, public health nursing, social workers, physiotherapists and specialist colleagues. Our clinic is a compliment to 3 other family medicine clinics on Salt Spring Island. There is a total of 13 family physicians practicing in this tight-knit medical community.
Physicians work across all community settings to help deliver care where it is needed. This also includes managing patients admitted to hospital, presenting through the ER or residing in residential care.
The clinic is a UBC Department of Family Practice teaching site. Second year family practice residents join us for their 8 week rural rotation. Supervising/precepting residents if fun, fulfilling and entirely optional.
In addition to office work, the position requires hospital privileges at LMH for Inpatient care, and Doctor of the Day program. As well, the following services are available if desired: Emergency department coverage and Long Term Care services.
Vacation time is important! Our clinic has access to a number of locum physicians who provide ongoing coverage.
