Studies describing the epidemiology and treatment of SARS-CoV-19 (COVID-19) suggest that severe COVID-19 infection is likely a hypercoagulable state that leads to an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and poorer prognosis.

VP Pandemic Planning & Chief MHO Joint Update: July 16, 2020
At a news conference today, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Dr. Danuta Skowronski, Epidemiology Lead of Influenza & Emerging Respiratory Pathogens, discussed findings from a joint study between the BC CDC, UBC and LifeLabs, on COVID-19 serology testing. Overall, less than 1% of British Columbians were infected with COVID-19 up to the end of May. While the findings indicate that we were very successful at flattening the curve, it also highlights that we are still very susceptible.

Welcome to the new COVID-19 update. As we move through the summer months and everyone is (hopefully) able to take some time off to recharge your batteries, we will be condensing our end-of-day updates to provide you with key need-to-know information about COVID-19 and pandemic planning for the fall and beyond. We thank CEO Kathy MacNeil for her consistent and supportive voice these past four months. For now, we will continue with updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will increase these as the need for more information increases.
