Call out for Medical Staff Co-Facilitators - Violence Prevention Training

Posted on: March 19, 2024

We are looking for up to six medical staff members from high risk areas, with violence prevention and de-escalation expertise, to enhance the current provincial Violence Prevention Training curriculum offering.

Violence Prevention training for medical staff includes a short, online component for all medical staff, and a second, in-person component for high risk areas totaling 3.5 hours of training.

Medical staff feedback was received requesting increased relevancy for your clinical positions. As a result, Island Health is seeking medical staff with an interest in Violence Prevention to co-lead these training sessions jointly with the Occupational Health & Safety team.

Funding is secured from the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Physician Psychological and Physical Safety to cover medical staff time and travel to pilot this idea.

Medical Staff Co-Lead:

  • Medical staff from high-risk areas (Emergency, Psychiatry, Neurology, and Long-Term Care) will be prioritized for the available positions, based on their expertise.
  • Interest in violence prevention and de-escalation techniques to enhance the provincial curriculum offering.
  • Ability to commit to two (2) in-person sessions quarterly with medical staff teams (South, Central, or North Island).
  • Training time, preparation time, and session time covered by MOA funding through Doctors of BC. Travel will be reimbursed with pre-approval, if required.
