Do you have an interest in violence prevention and medical staff peer-to-peer learning? We are looking for additional medical staff members from high-risk areas—with violence prevention and/or de-escalation expertise—to co-facilitate the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum for Medical Staff (PVPC).
These co-lead roles are part-time and compensated, with administrative support for all of the logistics. See below for details.
The PVPC consists of two modules:
- The first component is an online module (1.5 hours) and is a required learning module for all medical staff.
- The second component is in-person training (3.5 hours) and is co-led by a medical staff co-facilitator and an Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) lead. A review was conducted in 2024 and adapted by physicians to meet the needs of Island Health medical staff. This training is a requirement for medical staff practicing in the following high-risk areas:
- Emergency Departments/Urgent Care
- Mental Health & Substance Use
- Psychiatry
- Neurology
- Long-term care
- Community Health Services
Interested? The role requires:
- Medical staff member(s) with an interest in, and experience of, violence prevention and/or de-escalation techniques.
- The ability to commit to two in-person quarterly sessions with medical staff teams (in South, Central, or North Island).
- Work experience in a high-risk clinical area is preferred.
Administrative support is provided by Medical & Academic Affairs and Occupational Health & Safety teams.
Funding:
Funding for the co-lead positions is secured from the Physician Master Agreement (PMA) Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Physician Psychological and Physical Safety.
Training time, preparation time, and session time is covered by MOA funding through Doctors of BC. Travel will be reimbursed with pre-approval, if required. If you are interested in becoming a co-facilitator, please reach out to MedStaffOHS@islandhealth.ca
