Reduced Medical Imaging tests and procedures | March 19

Mindful Imaging.

Effective immediately and in accordance with the Provincial Phase 2 Outbreak Response, Island Health Medical Imaging is prioritizing imaging exams to support critical care.  Non-urgent exams are being postponed until further notice.  This difficult decision has been taken in order to decrease the potential  transmission of COVID-19 in our hospitals, and applies to non-urgent MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and Fluoroscopy.  Referrals are being reviewed by a Radiologist and placed into pending status.  Patients are being contacted to postpone booked exams.

X-rays are not booked in advance, and this limits our ability to select for urgent cases before they present to the hospital. Please be mindful when ordering X-rays, and only order X-rays that will change patient management on an urgent basis. Non-urgent X-rays will not be performed.  If, for office workflow reasons, you give a patient a non-urgent requisition to be performed at a later date, please clearly indicate this on the requisition. We need your help to help flatten the curve and protect our community.
