Island Health Participation in Quality Forum 2027
Health Quality BC's Quality Forum 2027 will take place March 10–11, 2027, in Vancouver. Quality Forum is an annual provincial event that brings together people from across British Columbia's health care system to share improvement work, learn from one another, build connections, and explore opportunities to improve the quality of care.
Registration is expected to open later this fall. To support a coordinated and equitable approach to Island Health participation, the Quality, Safety & Research portfolio will be leading a centralized attendance, approval and registration process for Island Health staff.
→ What Does This Mean for Island Health Staff?
Island Health has a limited number of spaces available to support attendance at Quality Forum. We also have a number of Island Health teams who have submitted work to be presented at the Forum.
Our first priority will be to support Island Health staff whose submissions have been accepted for presentation. Following confirmation of presenter attendance, any remaining opportunities will be made available through a transparent expression-of-interest and selection process.
All attendance will also be subject to the employee's usual leader approval process. Staff will need approval from their direct supervisor/leader to attend, including approval for the required time away from work and consideration of operational and staffing requirements. Central approval for participation and registration does not replace local leader approval.
Island Health staff should not register independently when registration opens. Registration for staff who are approved to attend will be coordinated centrally through the Quality, Safety & Research portfolio. Staff who register outside of this centralized process and submit an expense claim for registration and attendance costs will have their claim denied.
→ If You Submitted Abstracts to Quality Forum
If you receive notification from Health Quality BC that your submission has been accepted, please send a copy of your acceptance notification to Allison Logan (Allison.logan@islandhealth.ca) as soon as possible. This will allow us to confirm Island Health's presenters and coordinate the next steps for attendance approval and registration. Once you have been confirmed to attend, you will be sent a link for registration.
Our intent is to ensure that Island Health staff who are presenting work at Quality Forum are appropriately supported to attend.
→ Interested in Attending but Not Presenting?
There will also be an opportunity for Island Health staff who are not presenting to express interest in attending Quality Forum 2027.
Once presenter attendance has been confirmed and we understand the number of remaining spaces available, we will share:
- How to submit an expression of interest.
- The criteria that will be used to consider requests, including local level governance or local level quality improvement as a key part of your everyday work, C.A.R.E Network or Specialty Service Area approval.
- The timeline for submissions.
- How and when applicants will be notified.
As part of this process, applicants will be expected to confirm support from their direct supervisor or leader. Final attendance will be dependent on both selection through the centralized process and local leader approval for time away from work.
The intent is to provide a consistent and transparent process for considering attendance requests from across Island Health.
Important: Please Do Not Register Independently
Staff approved to attend will be notified, and registration will be coordinated centrally. Once you have been confirmed to attend, you will be sent an individual link for registration. This link must not be shared.
→ What Happens Next?
For now:
- If your Quality Forum submission is accepted: Please forward your acceptance notification to Allison Logan (Allison.logan@islandhealth.ca).
- If you are interested in attending but are not presenting: No action is required yet. Further information about the expression-of-interest process will be shared once presenter attendance has been confirmed.
- Please do not register independently. Staff approved to attend will be notified, and registration will be coordinated centrally.
This centralized approach will be trialled for Quality Forum 2027 and evaluated following the event. We will seek feedback from participants and programs, assess how well the process supported a coordinated and equitable approach to attendance, and use those learnings to inform and improve the process for future years.
Thank you for your continued commitment to quality improvement and for helping showcase the excellent work taking place across Island Health.
