Have you ever noticed a process that could work better but weren't sure where to start? That's where quality improvement (QI) comes in. QI gives teams a practical way to turn everyday challenges into opportunities for learning and better care.
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Model for Improvement is a simple starting point, using three guiding questions and the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle to help teams move from idea to action. These questions help teams clarify their aim, decide what to measure, and choose a change idea to test. Once a change idea is identified, the PDSA cycle helps test it on a small scale, learn from what happens, and adapt the idea before spreading it more broadly. We'll explore the PDSA cycle in a future article.
