The division of General Surgery at Nanaimo General Hospital is seeking a 0.7 FTE General Surgeon, joining 8 other surgeons in the division. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the management of a breadth of general surgical conditions including endoscopy, breast cancer, endocrine and abdominal conditions. Sub-subspeciality training in foregut, advanced colorectal or surgical oncology will be seen as advantageous.  A strong working relationship with the division and competence in Pacemaker implantation will be an asset. In addition to shared elective surgery and endoscopy resources the successful candidate would commit to do 7 Acute Care Surgery service weeks per year. There is opportunity for participation in the Trauma service as well as surgical assisting if desired.

The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible for, certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. 
 
Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and the Division of General Surgery supports senior General Surgical Resident rotations in addition to the Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program – Nanaimo Site residents who are based at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Participation in the teaching program is expected.

The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (356 acute care beds) enjoys state of the art operating rooms and serves an immediate population of 160,000 and a secondary referral population of over 350,000.  Opportunity exists for academic affiliation and teaching of medical students and residents.
