Island Health has a full-time vacancy available at the Comox Valley Hospital for an Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Applicants will hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Obstetrics & Gynecology and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
Applicants must demonstrate experience as well as comfort working as part of an integrated care team with other hospital-focused specialist physicians and support colleagues, family physicians, midwives and nurses. Participation in teaching through the University of British Columbia (UBC) Island Medical Program is expected. Academic appointment through UBC is available to qualified applicant. Participation in the ongoing MORE-OB program is expected.
The Comox Valley Hospital is a brand new 154 bed acute care facility, managed by Island Health that serves a referral population of 70,000. This new facility has 45 additional beds to accommodate the recent increase in population and includes an 8-bed ICU and a 10-bed telemetry unit. The hospital has a closed ICU and diagnostic imaging services include CT and MRI scanners.
The perinatal unit has 9 LDRP rooms with adjacent access to the OR. There are approximately 500 deliveries per year. Neonatal and pediatric care is provided by 2 pediatricians and NRP trained family physicians. A third pediatrician is being recruited. 24 hour epidural cover is provided by a rota of 7 anaesthetists. The OR has 5 operating rooms. OR access for non-emergent cases is by waiting list and managed by the obstetrics and gynecology department.

- Recruitment Incentive: up to a maximum of $10,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)
- Relocation: up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
- Fee Premium 6.93%,
- Annual Flat Fee $10,739.52
- Rural CME starting at $3,000/annum in year 3&4 in community, increasing to a maximum of $6,000/annum after 4 years.
