The West Coast Physician Group and Island Health are seeking locums to provide inpatient coverage at Tofino General Hospital and primary care services in Tofino and Ucluelet. We offer short term and reoccurring locum opportunities, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to practice medicine in one of British Columbia’s most spectacular rural coastal settings. Previous rural medicine and First Nations medical experience is an asset.
Physicians typically work 7 day “Doctor of the Week” rotations, although shorter rotations can be accommodated. Tofino General Hospital is a 10-bed acute care hospital with a busy Emergency Room that serves both local residents and a large seasonal visitor population. The hospital is a UBC Island Medical School Program residency teaching site and has a well-established and broad range of visiting specialists.
Primary care services are provided through well-established clinics across the region, including: Ahousaht Medical Clinic, Tonquin Medical Clinic (Tofino), Ucluelet Medical Centre, Hitacu Health Centre, and Ty-Histanis Health Centre. All clinics utilize Accuro EMR.
You’ll join a highly collegial team supported by excellent nursing staff, Island Health ancillary services, including rehabilitation, Mental Health and Substance Use, and Home and Community Care. Service delivery expands into surrounding First Nations communities through partnerships with the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC), and the West Coast Primary Care Initiative (PCI). We work closely with community partners and are supported by a Division of Family Practice chapter, Facilities Engagement, and the Long Beach Primary Care Network.
