The South Island Department of Psychiatry is looking for a part-time General Psychiatry, Outpatient Psychiatrist. The successful candidates will engage and participate in outpatient care at Victoria Mental Health Centre.
The successful candidates’ clinical focus will be on serious and persistent mental illness particularly Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, severe depressions, and severe personality disorders with functional impairment.
The majority of care is delivered via team based care, with a small minority of care being psychiatrist only. Direct care to patients as well as indirect care with allied health professionals will be part of this role. Outreach may be a part of this role as well. Further, telehealth services (primarily videoconference) will be provided at times.
The successful candidates’ will engage in enthusiastic team participation and collaboration with an emphasis on the interdisciplinary approach.
Participation in the evaluation of the efficiency, quality and delivery of the Services is expected by the successful candidate. This may include participation in medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and incident report reviews.
Participation in the South Island General Psychiatry call rotation is a requirement of this position.
Involvement in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program is encouraged. A University of BC affiliated appointment and membership in the Division of General Psychiatry is available.
Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.
The successful candidates’ will be expected to participate in all Departmental, Clinical and Operational Team meetings and take on a lead role when required.
