Psychiatrist - Child and Adolescent, Virtual (100-2769)

The successful candidate will work with the Island Health Child and Adolescent Virtual clinic which provides assessment, management and follow up as needed to children and youth with mental health and substance use issues island wide. The concerns of the patients may include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar illness, psychosis, substance use, developmental disabilities, eating disorders, ADHD, behaviour disorders, and family conflict. The patients referred will be between the ages of 6-18. Clinical services may include one time only consultations or there may be consultation with time limited ongoing care including pharmacotherapy. The applicant will be expected to work collaboratively with the child’s local care team and physicians. Care will be in a shared model such that the child psychiatrist will not hold sole responsibility to care for these remote patients.

The telepsychiatry platform is BC Virtual Visit.

The applicant will be expected to work with the MOA and clinician assigned to the clinic to review intake and appropriateness of referrals.

The successful candidate is expected to support their privileging hospital in its role in supporting local children and youth with mental health and substance use issues, including providing on call coverage if applicable.

As Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program there is opportunity for training of medical students and residents and applying for a clinical appointment is expected.

The position is for 1 day per week and is based on a work day of 5-6 hours per day.

Education, Training and Experience
  • FRCPC, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
  • Child and Adolescent Telepsychiatry experience is preferred
  • Trauma informed practice training is preferred
  • Completion of the Indigenous Cultural training module is required
