The Department of Medicine at Island Health has an opening for a general gastroenterologist at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). The successful applicant will play a key role in developing a full-service Gastroenterology program at NRGH. Subspecialty training in inflammatory bowel disease would be considered an asset but is not required. Five years or more of clinical experience preferred.
The successful candidate will join the current gastroenterologist at NRGH and establish a private community consultation practice. They will work with the 10-member Division of General Surgery to provide comprehensive GI care to our community. There is no after-hours on-call expectation at this time. As the program grows and resources become available, after-hours on-call services will be incorporated into the position. Internal Medicine service is not required.
NRGH has an immediate population of 160,000 residents and serves as a referral center for Central and Northern Vancouver Island encompassing a population of 400,000. The Island Health Division of Gastroenterology is affiliated with the University of British Columbia and the Island Medical Program. Your responsibilities will include direct clinical care, with the opportunity to teach medical students and residents. Opportunities for quality improvement projects and clinical research are available. Opportunities for clinical appointments with the University of British Columbia are also available.
