The Medical Lead, Medicine NRGH, is a leadership position with operational decision-making responsibilities. The Medical Lead works proactively with members of the general internal medicine call group as well as lead of other specialist medical groups to guide continuous quality improvement of Medicine services at NRGH. This position reports to the Site Medical Director, NRGH, as well as the regional Division Head for General Internal Medicine and the Island Department Head for Medicine.
Main responsibilities of this position:
- Leadership: Leads the general internal medicine group in its service provision to services at Nanaimo Hospital and associated facilities, and liaises with lead of local specialist medical groups also providing services within the hospital. Ensures physicians and staff work as a team to plan, improve, and monitor service delivery.
- Operations & Quality: Monitors team performance and makes course corrections when necessary. works to engage physicians and staff towards a culture of continuous quality improvement in service delivery.
- Change Management: Acts as change management ‘champion’ to engage and support physicians and staff through change.
- Informatics: Though informatics leadership may be delegated to another physician colleague, ensures that someone within NRGH engages with the Quality Systems team to advance technology and data use from the electronic health records (EHR) to improve service delivery.
- Planning: Assesses, monitors and anticipates team resource needs and works with human resources (both medical lead and HR staff), medical leaders, and administrative leaders, to help ensure those needs are understood and prioritized, acknowledging available resources.
