Island Health's Department of Psychiatry, South Island, has an opportunity for two part-time Psychiatrists to join the Western Communities MHSU Hub (WC Hub).
The WC Hub features psychiatry services that are fully integrated into a team-based care model where Care Coordinators are the most responsible clinician for clients, connecting them to appropriate service functions within the Hub. This unique approach to services allows Hub psychiatrists to provide ongoing care to clients for as long is as necessary but does not require clients to have a psychiatrist to receive ongoing Hub services. The team psychiatrists work with team members to determine client psychiatry needs, if any, and are welcomed as clinical leaders at the service.
WC Hub services are for MHSU clients who require urgent & counselling services, as well as those who require specialized team-based outpatient services . This Western Communities MHSU Services Hub features a dynamic, collaborative team made up of counsellors, case managers/care coordinators, nurses, concurrent disorders workers, peer support, mental health support work, and addictions medicine services. The service includes a single-session walk-in access point for MHSU services. The goal is to create more accessibility and responsiveness for people living in the Western communities, ensure strong matching of clinical service with individualized client care needs and support recovery and stabilization for individuals dealing with mental health and substance use challenges.
Collaborative care, integrating primary care partners and working closely with family and social networks of patients is part of the clinical model.
Use of virtual care/TeleMHSU technologies will compliment care and support outreach to surrounding communities.
The successful candidate will have expertise and interest in working in a collaborative interdisciplinary team including PCPs, psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, nurse practitioners, peers and nurses. The candidate will have expertise utilizing psychotherapy and psychiatric management skills, as well as experience in the assessment and treatment of people presenting with a broad range of problems including Mood, Anxiety, Adjustment, Substance Use/Addictions, and Personality.
