A new study by the University of British Columbia and BC Centre for Disease Control, among others, published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), shows people prescribed at least one day's supply of pharmaceutical-grade opioids had a 61 per cent lower risk of death from any cause the following week. People were also 55 per cent less likely to die of a drug poisoning the following week.
