The Oceanside Health Centre Urgent Care is a multidisciplinary environment with physicians, and emergency-trained RNs that provides urgent and emergent medical care to the Oceanside area on Vancouver Island. The Urgent Care is open from 0730-2130 daily and physicians usually work 8-hour shifts. Emergency certification is not required, but physicians working here should be comfortable providing acute emergent care. Patients are triaged by trained RNs according to the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) and are seen by either a physician. There is onsite medical imaging with x-ray and ultrasound and limited lab services are available via point-of-care testing. There is a large formulary of IV, oral and other medications as well as casting and splinting equipment. There are no overnight beds. Patients requiring a higher level of care are transferred to the regional referral hospital, which is 30 minutes away and has a no-refusal policy.
Other services offered at the Oceanside Health Centre include adult and geriatric psychiatry, medical daycare, ambulatory wound care, primary care, community care (mental health, home and community care, home support, diabetes education, and seniors health), and an out-patient lab.
