Island Health Authority’s Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time anatomical pathologist to join the Central Vancouver Island Pathology Associates at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The successful applicant will sign out general surgical pathology specimens and will participate in the group coverage of frozen sections and hospital (non-coroner) autopsies. Pathologists in Nanaimo also have the option to apply for a clinical appointment with the Department of Pathology at the University of British Columbia and be involved in the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate medical students and pathology residents.

Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is the regional hospital for central Vancouver Island, providing services to an immediate referral population of 125,000 and secondary referral services for 330,000. It has 345 acute care beds and over 20 long term care beds. The Nanaimo medical community enjoys a full complement of primary care physicians and skilled specialist colleagues.

All applicants must have a Fellowship in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or its equivalent) and must obtain full licensure in the province of British Columbia, as well as CMPA coverage. The successful applicant will ideally be an excellent diagnostician with superb interpersonal and collaborative abilities. Subspecialty expertise and previous experience will be considered favourable assets.
