Midwife (100-2430)

Reference Number
100-2430

The Island Health Department of Midwifery has full-time opportunities for Registered Midwives to join 75 other midwives practicing in greater Victoria.

Victoria Midwives are currently involved in roughly 50% of the total births in the Capital Region and the home birth rate is approximately 15%. Midwives have admitting privileges at the Victoria General Hospital, which is a tertiary care center for Vancouver Island with approximately 3,000 deliveries per year.

The Geography 4 Division of Midwifery is well integrated within the Island Health medical staff structure. Midwives are active members of multi-disciplinary perinatal care teams and have been instrumental in affecting how maternity care services are delivered in the region.

Midwives in British Columbia are required to practice in both the home and hospital setting. They are independent practitioners with their own practices in the community. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated dedication to providing full scope midwifery care within Island Health.

The successful applicants must be eligible to obtain full licensure with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and demonstrate appropriate experience and training.
