Dr. William Cunningham Awarded David Haughton Leadership Award
Dr. William Cunningham was awarded the 2021 David Haughton Leadership Award. The David Haughton Leadership Award is awarded every few years by the Section of Emergency Medicine of the Doctors of BC for exemplary achievements as a physician, leader, and teacher.
Pandemic Planning COVID-19 Update
Dr. Bonnie Henry said gyms and adult fitness can restart on January 20th with some new guidance to allow that to happen safely. Other Public Health Orders have been extended to February 16th. This includes capacity limits at restaurants and sporting events, closure of bars, and mandatory COVID safety plans for all businesses.
Island Health adjusting services to strengthen patient safety
Island Health has implemented several temporary service adjustments to strengthen patient care during Omicron-related COVID-19 staffing challenges.
CHEK brings the Upside to immunization
CHEK TV broadcast the Upside from Island Health's immunization clinic at Archie Browning on Monday evening – encouraging COVID-19 immunizations – from first and second doses – to boosters – to kids.
Pandemic Planning COVID-19 Update
COVID-19 modelling was presented today by Dr. Bonnie Henry, and it shows the Omicron wave may have peaked last weekend. However, the peak of hospitalizations is still to come, and will likely coincide with the peak of health-care worker illness with the virus.

Education recommendations for COVID-19 Immunizers
It is required that all those involved in immunization activities have their competencies reviewed using the BCCDC COVID-19 Immunization Skills Checklist by the immunization employer, with the exception of Physicians, NPs, and those who have previously completed the BCCDC Immunization Competency Course and BCCDC Immunization Skills Checklist.
