Why I Immunize - Kathy MacNeil (1).png

“Getting vaccinated is one of the simplest ways to show we care for each other. It’s a small act that can make a big difference – especially to those who need protection the most. Each year, I roll up my sleeve to help keep those around me safe – patients, coworkers and my loved ones.”  - Kathy MacNeil, President and CEO

Immunization remains an important tool to reduce the impact of influenza and COVID-19 on our health-care facilities and to protect those we care for and ourselves.

Island Health staff, medical staff, volunteers and students are strongly encouraged to get immunized. Health-care workers are capable of transmitting influenza and COVID-19 to those at highest risk.

1. Register to Get Vaccinated

Once registered, the Get Vaccinated system, you will receive an email or SMS text message when it’s time to book a new appointment. These vaccines are free for all BC residents aged six months and older.
2. Choose a Clinic Near You

Book an appointment at your local pharmacy when notified by the Get Vaccinated system.

Pharmacy clinics at some Island Health sites are available until November 7 (view the schedule).
  • Open to all Island Health staff, medical staff, volunteers and students.
  • Bring your Island Health ID badge and provincial health-care card.
3. Declare Your Vaccination Status

All Island Health staff and medical staff are required to declare their vaccination status:
Immunization Eligibility and Masking

Healthcare workers are capable of transmitting influenza and COVID-19 to those at highest risk and are strongly encouraged to get immunized. See the current provincial recommendations:
Although not mandatory, health-care workers are expected to wear a mask if they have not been vaccinated for influenza. Appropriate personal protective equipment should be determined by a point-of-care risk assessment. Continue to practice hand hygiene and remain home if sick. COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended for health-care workers.
