Posted on: June 3, 2024

June 6, 2024, marks International "What Matters to You (WMTY)?" Day is a globally recognized initiative aimed at meaningful dialogues to prioritize the needs of patients and healthcare professionals alike. Originating in Norway in 2014, WMTY Day serves as a platform for fostering trust and understanding within healthcare settings.

Asking the simple question, "What Matters to You?" encourages conversations that demonstrate the personal needs and preferences of patients, caregivers, and families.

Further, engaging with your staff by asking "WMTY?" can lead to invaluable insights and generate ways to address specific concerns and motivations. This powerful question has been linked to facilitating change management initiatives and driving motivational interviewing practices.

Since its inception, the WMTY movement has spread internationally, reaching over 49 countries worldwide. As we approach this day and reflect upon it, there is significance in commemorating and celebrating its impact, aiming to raise awareness and provide resources to inspire ideas, spark conversations, and provide individuals with tools to champion patient-centred care.
