As of June 30, 2026, the Western Communities Substance Use Program (WCSUP) will close following a planned transition by Island Health’s Addiction Medicine and Substance Use (AMSU) program. Since 2022, WCSUP has delivered substance use care through a single physician, later co‑located at the Western Communities MHSU Hub. Clients have been transitioned to primary care, MHSU Hub services (including nurse prescriber-led Opioid Agonist Treatment [OAT]), or the Virtual Substance Use Service. WCSUP is no longer accepting referrals. Medical Staff should direct all new substance use care requests to Access Central or the Victoria Rapid Access Addiction Clinic. Access Central now serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking substance use services across Island Health.
