Upcoming workflow validation sessions give staff across disciplines a chance to contribute to the design and build of IHealth for the whole Island Health region.
Workflow validation ahead: a key opportunity for interdisciplinary input to IHealth
Workflow validation sessions are an important step in the preparation for advanced use of the electronic health record (EHR) across Island Health. At each session, clinical informaticists and IHealth project team members work together with participants from multiple disciplines (i.e., medical staff, nursing, allied health, pharmacy, laboratory, medical imaging and support staff) to “validate” essential workflows and site-specific processes, as well as identify changes in practice and potential gaps and risks.

The sessions – running from mid-June until early July 2023 – are organized by specialty or department, in order to prepare for the future roll-out of computerized provider order entry (CPOE). The introduction of CPOE at South Island tertiary sites in early 2024 will be the largest IHealth activation to date. It will benefit immensely from the expertise of SMEs across the Island – in particular from NRGH, where CPOE was first instituted in 2015-16.
