Sweet Tweets

Posted on: September 7, 2022

A simple message of appreciation, whether given or received, can unite and uplift us in challenging times. Countless patients, clients and families want to acknowledge the challenges facing staff and medical staff and thank them for their dedication, but those messages don't always make it to you.

Our Digital Engagement team recently travelled across Vancouver Island to invite staff and medical staff from all areas to read some of the heartfelt messages we receive from the public every day. Their reactions were captured on video to be shared on Island Health social media channels as a reminder that staff and medical staff are valued as individuals and healthcare workers, and that simple messages of gratitude can uplift both the giver and receiver.

Mental health and substance use workers, nurses, medical office assistants, COVID-19 response staff and many others had a chance to participate. All found it to be a positive experience.

Marcia Hercules-Giron, Emergency RN at West Coast General Hospital, read a message of thanks from Donna in Qualicum

"I can't imagine where we would be without the hard work, compassion and dedication of our health care providers," Donna wrote. "I can't thank you enough for the difference you make to so many of us. I am very greatful."

"Thank you for this beautiful message," Marcia said. "I really appreciate it, and I feel you."

This is the sixth edition of Sweet Tweets. See them all here. More videos will be posted in the months ahead, and we will continue collecting messages of thanks to share with you.

Please watch and share the videos, and let us know what you think.
