RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) can cause serious illness, particularly in older adults and infants. A free RSV vaccine is now available for adults aged 75 and older, and for First Nations, Métis and Inuit adults aged 60 and older, who have not previously received an RSV vaccine. Only one dose is needed for lifetime protection.

Those eligible can receive their vaccine through participating pharmacies. Eligible residents in long-term care and assisted living will be offered the vaccine where they live. Homebound individuals may be able to receive vaccination at home through community health services. For select rural and remote areas, the vaccine will be available at Island Health flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics. More appointments will be available in the coming months, as more doses arrive in B.C. and are distributed to participating pharmacies. This is a year-round program.
If you are speaking with eligible older adults or their caregivers, please encourage them to learn more about RSV vaccination. Sharing this information can help reduce serious illness and hospitalizations during respiratory season.
