Who has inspired you through their commitment to making Island Health more sustainable? Now is your chance to celebrate the colleagues and teams who are stepping up for the planet!
Every day, we work with people who are quietly and consistently transforming healthcare for the good of our planet and our health. Whether they’re helping to reduce medical waste, championing sustainable transportation, or helping to prepare us for climate events, these awards recognize those who go above and beyond their core responsibilities to advance climate action and environmental sustainability. Their dedication deserves to be celebrated and shared!
The Planetary Health Awards are your chance to recognize this leadership. You can nominate yourself, a coworker, or a team.
What does environmental sustainability look like?
It's broader than you might think. For example, nominees could include any individual or team who:
- Reduced waste or championed reusables
- Helped conserve water or energy at their unit or site
- Educated others on how climate and health connect
- Raised awareness about preparing for extreme heat or wildfire smoke
- Or made any other meaningful contribution to planetary health through their work!
If someone comes to mind, they probably deserve a nomination! (It might be you!)
How to nominate
Submitting a nomination takes about 20 minutes. The nomination form is straightforward, and our team is happy to answer any questions you might have.

Celebrating many forms of impact
All eligible nominees will be celebrated as Planetary Health Honourees, with recognition based on the focus of their work. Honourees can also be acknowledged multiple times over the years as their work continues.
From all eligible nominees, one individual and one team will be selected to receive the Excellence in Planetary Health Award. Award recipients will receive a custom plaque made from recycled materials, and winners will be announced at the Environmental Sustainability Program Update in November 2026.
