Celebrating National Physicians’ Day
On May 1, we mark National Physicians’ Day—a moment to recognize and thank you for the skill, compassion, and steadfast commitment you bring to your work every day.
You continue to care for people and communities through constant change and rising pressures. Yet your focus remains the same: delivering excellent care with integrity and humanity. That constancy fuels trust and strengthens our health system.
Across Island Health, your ingenuity is shaping the future of care. From 3D printing that helps teams rehearse complex pediatric procedures, to adopting AI tools that return time to patient conversations, to expanding robotic-assisted surgery across multiple specialties—your drive to innovate continues to improve outcomes and access for patients.
We also celebrate the leadership and generosity that define our medical community: from creative fundraising efforts in Cowichan, to the first graduating class of the Quw’utsun Residency Program, to the many physicians stepping forward to lead within the new medical leadership structure. Each of you plays a vital role in building a stronger, more responsive system of care.
National Physicians’ Day is a chance to pause and reflect—but also to express sincere gratitude. Your expertise, resilience, and compassion make an extraordinary difference to those we serve. Thank you for everything you do.
With appreciation,
Dr. Ben Williams
Vice President, Medicine, Quality, Research and Chief Medical Officer
