Dear colleagues,

Nurse Practitioners Week (November 10th to 16th) is held annually to recognize the vital role that Nurse Practitioners play in our healthcare system. This week, we celebrate the dedicated and growing number of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) for their profound impact in primary care, and beyond.

Nurse Practitioners undergo advanced education and provide comprehensive care to patients, including the ability to assess, diagnose, prescribe medications, interpret results, monitor, and educate their patients on managing chronic illness. Their comprehensive scope of practice, which includes acute and specialty care, enhances access to patient-centered care and plays a key role in the continuum of health care services.

We are proud to have 139 NPs as valued members of our medical staff, with appointments at 16 sites across the Island. These numbers represent the growing significance of this crucial area of practice at Island Health.

On behalf of Island Health, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the dedicated NPs for their leadership, expertise, and compassion, as they continue to improve patient outcomes and provide high quality care to our communities across the Island.

With gratitude,

Dr. Michelle Weizel,

Associate Vice President Medicine & Deputy Chief Medical Officer
