Island Health is preparing to launch Novari Medical Imaging Requisition Management (MIRM) across the region in March 2026. Novari MIRM is a new digital system that converts faxed community outpatient medical imaging requisitions into a centralized electronic workflow. This will reduce lost paperwork, streamline processing, and improve communication for both providers and patients.
Beginning March 2, 2026, all community outpatient imaging requisitions—excluding X-ray—must be faxed to newly established regional medical imaging numbers. Previous fax numbers will be discontinued at that time. This change applies only to community outpatient referrals; Island Health ambulatory clinics should continue using their current workflows (CPOE at activated sites and existing fax lines where CPOE has not been implemented. When requisitions are sent to the new fax lines, providers will automatically receive a fax-back confirmation when the requisition is received and again when the patient is booked.
If you practice in Nanaimo or north of Nanaimo, you may begin receiving these fax-back confirmations as early as February 23, 2026—an early sneak peek before the full regional launch.
Patients registered for MyHealth will start receiving text or email notifications that include appointment details, preparation instructions, and confirmation links. Patients who are not registered will continue to receive phone calls. Providers and MOAs are encouraged to promote MyHealth registration to support timely communication and reduce delays. MIRM applies to community outpatient CT, MRI, ultrasound, breast imaging, nuclear medicine, fluoroscopy, bone mineral density, and interventional radiology/angiography. It does not apply to X-ray, screening mammography, inpatient, emergency, or CPOE orders.
A centralized Medical Imaging Communication Centre will be available for patient questions or cancellations starting March 2026 at 250-370-8003. Provider cancellations can be completed by re-faxing the original requisition with a cancellation note.
