Trans Care BC and Prince George Division of Family Practice co-developed a new e-learning course, Gender-Affirming Relational Practice (GARP). This free, two-hour course provides an overview of how health-care providers can combine clinical practice, relational practice, and gender-affirming care principles to improve access and care for trans, Two-Spirit, and non-binary (TTNB) clients.

The course encourages trust and safety for key audiences, and improves person-centered health care through strengthening the knowledge of health-care providers. Recognizing TTNB clients are as diverse as the rest of the client populations, the course focuses on integrating gender-affirming care with key practice approaches, such as:

  • Indigenous cultural safety;
  • Anti-racism;
  • Trauma-informed practice;
  • Harm reduction; and
  • Informed consent.
