Measles is circulating internationally and there are cases in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. Please remind your patients/clients to ensure their routine immunizations are up to date, especially before travelling.
The measles vaccine is recommended for those
- Born on or after January 1, 1970: eligible for two doses (routinely given at one year and four to six years of age)
- Born before January 1, 1970: likely immune through prior infection, eligible for one dose if no history of measles immunizations or disease
- Infants aged six months to one year can receive an early extra dose if travelling to an area with measles
