September 12

Dear colleagues,

Great medical leadership is critical to the success of Island Health. Medical staff have asked us to evolve our medical leadership structure and supports to better meet the existing and future needs of medical staff, medical leaders, patients, and our organization.

As a result, we are initiating work to address the following priorities related to medical leadership:

  • Ensuring role clarity, fostering effective co-leadership, and improving medical staff governance.
  • Establishing clear and consistent FTE allocation and compensation policies and processes.
  • Enhancing supports such as onboarding and professional development.

This critical work will be underway over the next year. We will maintain a transparent and collaborative approach by:

  • Ensuring medical leadership and MSA Executive representation on project committees.
  • Gathering consistent input and feedback from medical staff.
  • Communicating regularly and providing progress updates.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to improve medical leadership at Island Health.

For enquiries about medical leadership, please contact Dr. Keith Menard, Executive Medical Director, Medical Staff Governance who will be leading this work. keith.menard@islandhealth.ca

Sincerely,

Dr. Ben Williams,

VP Medicine, Quality, Research and Chief Medical Officer
