June 2023 issue of Mental Health Act (MHA) INFOBITS is here!

Posted on: June 23, 2023

What if a person in authority is giving you important information, but it is in a language that you cannot understand?  What if the terms being used are opaque and can be interpreted inmha-june-2023.jpg various ways depending on the listener/reader?

Although we live in a world where we can use the internet to help translate meanings of words, many times a person still has to have a basic understanding of medical terms to associate the importance of what is being said/read. This can present an unintentional barrier between the patient and the treatment team.

This issue continues the discussion about the four criteria for involuntary admission from the May issue; and how they can be written on the medical certificates (Form 4s)  in a way that is accessible and easy to understand, even for people without higher education or a knowledge of medical terms.

The June issue is available for direct download and will land at the MHA Intranet site in the near future.
