On behalf of: AMSU

Island Health's Harm Reduction & Substance Use Education Review Committee has officially completed its commitments under the 2023 WorkSafeBC Agreement—an achievement made possible by the dedication and expertise of team members across the organization.

Over the past two years, the committee has helped strengthen our shared understanding of harm reduction principles and supported consistency in substance use education across care settings. With this work now complete, the formal committee has been dissolved.

What this means going forward

  • Education Approvals: Each program area will now review and approve its own substance use education and presentations.
  • Consultation Support: The Addiction Medicine & Substance Use program (AMSU) will continue to offer consultation on substance use education and practice materials to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Quality Improvement: Projects will move through established CARE Network and SSA pathways, including the Clinical Education Cross Continuum Committee when multiple practice areas are involved.

Accessing Resources

Relevant AMSU resources will be available on the ISLH intranet:

Resources created by other program areas will remain their responsibility to maintain and post.

The substance use education inbox has now been retired. For questions or consultation requests, please contact amsu@islandhealth.ca.
