Green Teams Program: Apply for the January Cohort

→ Sustainability

Got an idea for making your workplace more sustainable? You're not the only one. Green Teams are bringing staff together across Island Health to turn good ideas into real improvements.

Whether it’s phasing out single-use items, improving recycling infrastructure, reducing energy usage, or another sustainability improvement, the Green Teams Program helps staff turn their ideas into action and create positive change in their workplace.

What are Green Teams?
Green Teams are groups of staff working together to make sustainability improvements at their sites. Green Teams partner with Island Health’s Environmental Sustainability team to introduce practical, site-specific changes that reduce environmental impact and help our health system adapt to climate change.

The Green Teams Program provides structure, resources, and guidance to help you turn your ideas into action. The six-month program helps staff launch Green Teams at our hospitals, care homes, and health centres. Participants lead sustainability projects tailored to their workplace, gain new skills, and join a community of teams across Island Health. You’ll receive hands-on support, tools, and connections to help your Green Team succeed both during the cohort and after.

Today we have 15 Green Teams, with over 100 participants working on more than 53 sustainability projects. In January, we’re excited to welcome a new cohort of changemakers!

All roles and locations are welcome to apply for the Green Teams Program, including clinical staff, facilities & support staff, administration, public health, and more. You don't need any experience with sustainability, only passion for climate action! The program includes sustainability education and hands-on support to help you get started.

Once you begin building your Green Team, we help you recruit others from your site or unit to join your team. Because teamwork drives change, and every job can be a climate job!
